Lizard Orchid

Lizard Orchid / himantoglossum hircinum. Leicestershire. 17/06/20.

A close-up peep into the hood of a newly emerged Lizard Orchid.

The flowers had started to uncurl and develop characteristic spiralled, twisted forms ... like little lizards!

The 'bodies' were pure white, and lacked the purple markings seen on mature flowers. The 'tails' and 'legs' were bright green at this stage too.
