Golden Spindles

Golden Spindles / clavulinopsis fusiformis. Clumber Park, Nottinghamshire. 10/10/17.

'GOLDEN SPINDLES OR NOT GOLDEN SPINDLES, THAT IS THE QUESTION.' (1)

I was informed at the time these were Golden Spindles, despite lacking pointed tips. Since they were mature fruiting bodies, perhaps that's the reason they looked as they did ?

Any views on this welcomed.

They did however demonstrate very clearly, characteristic flattened bodies, longitudinal grooves and some had reddish-brown tips.

Golden Spindles are good indicators of unimproved grassland, feeding on decaying organic matter in the soil. These are the grassland habitats that Waxcaps favour, and there were certainly an abundance of those found in the area that day.
