Eurasian Nuthatch DSC_1072

Eurasian Nuthatch / sitta europaea. St Chad's Water, Derbyshire. 09/11/17.

An unexpected treat! BEST VIEWED LARGE.

At the edge of the small car park, locals have introduced a few bird feeders containing fat balls and peanuts. This informal feeding station provides an important food source for the small bird population and I always spent 10 minutes or so there, watching activities after I've walked my dogs.

Over the last two years, on an infrequent, random visit basis, I've watched Blue, Great and L.T Tits, Chaffinches, Greenfinches, Dunnocks, Robins and the occasional Great Spotted Woodpecker feeding there.

Seeing this Nuthatch a few days ago, was an unexpected treat! I have never seen or heard one at the site before.
