Willow Emerald Damselfly DSC_6079

Willow Emerald Damselfly / chalcolestes viridis. Strumpshaw Fen, Norfolk. 15/08/16.

Red Letter Day - Metallic Green Beauty.

This is the first Willow Emerald Damselfly I have ever seen and the first image I have made of one - therefore, of particular significance to me!

I found it perched at head height on a willow leaf beside a shady ditch. What could be better for a first encounter? Well, the fact that it was so confiding I'd say!

My experience of damselflies is that the slightest movement makes them take flight. Not so with this gorgeous insect. I was able to view it closely, from all angles before starting to make images and there it remained, without so much as a wing twitch! Fantastic.

It is always thrilling to see something for the first time but to get a quality encounter such as this is very, very special indeed.
