Mandarin Duck

Mandarin Duck / aix galericulata. Wollaton Park, Nottinghamshire. 01/04/18.

'SLEEPING BEAUTY'.

A nice find back in the Spring, despite the falling light and drizzle.

Two pairs of Mandarin Ducks flew up the thick branches of an Alder tree which overhung the lake. They then started to preen and shake their plumage vigorously before settling down to sleep.

It was a treat to see them so relaxed, in such close proximity to where I stood. Generally I find them extremely wary subjects.
