The café is named after the artist and activist Melitta Sunström. In the inner yard behind the café was the location of the Schwules Museum* between 1988 and 2013. Access to the club SchwuZ was through the café beginning in 1994 until 2013 when SchwuZ moved to Rollbergstraße 26 in Berlin-Neukölln.
