Fokker Dr.1

The Fokker Dr.1 (Dreidecker, ”triplane” in German), often known simply as the Fokker Triplane, was a World War 1 fighter aircraft built by Fokker-Flugzeugwerke. The Dr.1 saw widespread service in the spring of 1918. It became famous as the aircraft in which Manfred von Richthofen gained his last 19 victories, and in which he was killed on 21April 1918.

The Fokker Dr.1 is a must in any collection of WW1 aircraft models, so it has been on my to-doo list for a long time. I did hesitate building one because there are so many brilliant models out there, and I did look at all the models out there, but this is completely my own design. It follows the same design characteristics as with my other WW1 models, such as engine cowling, wings and landing-gear. There is one key design feature of the Fokker Dr.1 I didn`t manage to recreate, the engine cowling ”face” with the two ”eyes” are missing. I couldn`t find a way to do it, so until I find a way it will be without ”eyes”.

Hope you enjoy the pictures.
