Jaguar Mark X : The Colossus of Roads
Jaguar Mark X / Mark Ten / Mk 10.
3.8 litre automatic. Interior detail - dashboard.
My 7th car.
Digitised from old photo taken early 1980's.
The colossus of roads : nearly 17 foot long x nearly 6½ foot wide x nearly 2 ton.
265 bhp - 115 mph top speed.
This was the widest production Jaguar for over 30 years until the XJ220 arrived in 1992.
Originally aimed at the US market it would comfortably seat 4 adults across the rear bench seat or 5 even 6 at a squeeze.
To be able to comfortably convey 6 adults in great comfort at speeds of over 100 mph in 1961 was quite a feat.
The downside - if I was in a rush I used to get about 6mpg!
This model went on to use the 4.2 litre XK engine and was eventually rebadged as the 420G.
