Descending Jalovec - Slovenia

Jalovec, 2645m, "the alpine crystal of the Julian Alps"

Starting altitude: 1108m. Height difference: 1537m. Our route was the northwest ridge. "the northwestern ridge represents the most difficult route to Jalovec. But, at the same time this long and strenuous tour is one of the finest alpine ascents in the Slovene mountains."

"if we should want to represent the Julian Alps in three selected picture, one of them would assuredly depict Jalovec ... Jalovec's character has something audacious and challenging about it . Special emphasis is given to the uplifting Gothic lines of its ridges and aretes and the sharply pointed summit that literally pierces the sky. Jalovec is a lofty and difficult mountain, and this has significance for the northern approach; from Tamar the tour must be accomplished in one fell swoop." (p.149)

"Difficulty: A very demanding, long and strenuous tour! Jalovec is a significant degree more difficult then Triglav. Take into consideration the warnings about steep snow fields and go suitably equipped.

Times:

Tamar - Kotovo sedlo 2.30-3h

Kotovo sedlo - Jalovec 2 - 2.30h

Descent via Jalovska Skrbina 4 - 6 h

Total 10 - 11 h." (p.151)

It is a beautifully written and impassioned guidebook.
