Made of Stone
Once I got Lightroom earlier this year, I started looking back at some of my shots which had previously only been processed using a free app on my Nexus tablet and giving them another go using the RAW files which had been gathering dust for a few months.
This view across to Side Pike and the Langdale Pikes from Lingmoor Fell jumped out as a prime candidate to be switched to mono. I think the lack of colour helps bring out the textures in the landscape a bit more, and I now much prefer this to the colour treatment. I'll leave the 'old' version in my stream for you to make up your own mind!
This shot always makes me think of the dedication in the front of Waiwright's Far Eastern Fells:
...dedicated to the memory of
THE MEN WHO BUILT THE STONE WALLS,
which have endured the storms of centuries
and remain to this day as monuments to
enterprise, perserverance and hard work
