Desolation

Near Manyberries, AB. I spent several days driving around southern Alberta, and one thing that is really striking about the grassland region is that no two parts of it look the same. Some are hilly and rolling, some are smooth and gentle, some are flat and covered in crops. The area between Foremost and Orion/Manyberries was by far the scruffiest, most desolate, roughest looking prairie land that I cam across on this trip. I wonder why?
