RAF Fylingdales. North Yorkshire.

Its motto is "Vigilamus" ("We are watching").

It is a radar base and is also part of the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System.

A secondary role is the detection and tracking of orbiting objects.

Built in 1962, the height of the Cold War, it had 3 large Golf Ball Geodesic Dome structures hiding the tracking systems within and since 1992 these have been replaced with the single structure in this photo.

It can be seen for many miles and is heavily protected and surrounded by Ministry of Defence land.
