Theydon Garnon, All Saints.

William Kyrkeby rector mid 15thc.

The church of All Saints, Theydon Garnon is visible to millions of travellers, standing prominently as it does on its small hill, overlooking the M25/M11 junction. I have driven past many times, and wondered which church it was, with its fine brick tower, so typical of Essex churches.

It is not accessible directly from the motorway junction, but is reached from B roads via the surrounding towns.

The church is not normally open, so I was very lucky to find a lady gardening on the morning of my visit. She let me in, and waited while I took some pictures. After she had been jangling the keys for five minutes, I took the hint, thanked her and left to take some exterior photos.
