Finchingfield, St. John.
John Berners and wife, 1523. The brass effigies are on a tomb chest with a purbeck marble top.
Finchingfield is one of the prettiest villages you are likely to see in England. Consequently it is usually packed with tourists, especially in summer. The pubs on the green seem particularly popular with motorcyclists, perhaps due to the winding country lanes hereabouts. From the village green the road leads up the hill to St. John's church. The churchyard is entered through a gateway in the early 16thc. guildhall.
The church itself has features dating from the Norman period right through until the 15thc. Also some decent tombs and monuments.
