4672r Ladybridge Arches

The two railway arches were demolished by three orange diggers, led by the biggest, which worked from the northern end of the bridge. The southern arches over Middlebrook and the riverside footpath were left untouched.

The process revealed the different building materials used. The more southerly railway arch was built of stone when the line was built c1840. The more northerly arch was added when the tracks were quadrupled later in the 19th Century. It was built in brick, faced with stone.

Lorries worked in a continuous chain to remove spoil, backing in at the north end of the bridge and driving offsite as soon as fully loaded.

The team work together throughout the job.
