The Return
“It is good to be back again, do you not agree, Posh Bear?” Asked Sky having brushed his fur for the fourth time that morning.
“Yes indeed, Sky, I see you are still trying to clean your fur of the maple syrup that landed in your lap on the way back.”
“Yes, it is taking time, I have licked and sucked all I can so now it is brushing and soapy water, I think. I do wonder why it always happens that way though.”
“Sorry, what do you mean, Sky?” Asked Bertie.
“That can of maple syrup, it fell from the shelf that Ellie had placed it on when she got into the ellicopter, it fell because she decided to go downside up without telling anyone. However, why is it they always fall downside up and the contents run out? One never hears of a can falling and landing the right way up especially when there is no lid in place.”
“True, and one would think that as the bottom of the can is heavier than the top when on the shelf, it should fall straight down and not turn over in mid-air like it did.” Said Bertie thinking aloud and rubbing his head in concentration.
“I know why that is.” Said Barnaby looking all excited to have the answer of the problem.
“So, why is that then, Barnaby?” Asked Posh Bear gently.
“Well, being a semi-genius, I have worked out that the contents did not like it in the tin and wanted to get out and I can’t blame it. After all, would you like to be crammed in a tin with a lid sealed on top and if that lid was removed, you too would try and get out.” He said proudly waiting for applause.
“I suppose…” Commented Sky sounding totally disinterested in where the conversation had gone.
“I am still working out why Ellie went the way she did and not the direct route. It took a lot of sleeps to get there and even then; she landed on the wrong side of the moon and in a puddle.”
“Yes, good old Ellie, there can only be one puddle on the whole of the moon and she manages to land right in the middle of it, downside up. It certainly stirred things up when she decided to rise again and try and land elsewhere.” Said Bertie laughing.
“Well, it did a good job of watering the ground all around the puddle. I do wonder how it got there though. I mean, it was just one deepish puddle and the land all around was completely dry.” Said Posh Bear.
“It wasn’t dry after Ellie took off again. There was muddy water all over that signpost indicating where the honeycomb mines were. The water washed years of dirt off the sign so it could be read. Well, it could if you can read, I suppose.” Said Barnaby smiling because both him and Sky had to ask what the sign said.
“It was good to find that new honeycomb mine and the honeycomb was very good. It is just a shame that Ellie did not like us filling bags of it and bringing it home in her ellicopter. I think she was afraid the bags would split and it would all run out and get sticky.” Said Bertie smiling.
“That is right, so really Sky when one thinks about it, a half tin of maple syrup is small fry compared the several large bags of honeycomb being let loose in the ellicopter. Now, that could have been a very sticky situation to lick ourselves free from.” Said Posh Bear smiling as he saw that Sky was brushing his fur yet again.
