Comforting Theo
“Hello, Theo, how are you today?” Asked Sky as he sat down beside his new friend.
“Not very good, Sky, I can’t seem to get myself happy today. I am kind of grumpy.”
“Why do you think that is, Theo?”
“I don’t know, Sky. You go and chat to the other bears, I will be fine, eventually.” Said Theo with a sigh.
Sky sat down beside Theo without saying a word.
“Why are you staying here, Sky, I am not good company right now.”
“I feel like that at times, Theo, and when it happens, Posh, Barnaby, Bertie, or some other bear will always just sit with me and I know that I am not alone and have friends and that helps make me happy again.”
Theo smiled and nodded his head as if in agreement.
Moments later, Posh, Bertie and Barnaby came along and they all down too.
“Theo is not feeling in a happy mood, so I am sitting with him in the hope that will cheer him up again.” Said Sky.
“That is a good idea, Sky, we will all sit with Theo so he knows that we are all his friends and it does not matter how he feels, we’ll always still be his friend.” Said Posh Bear to the other bears who all nodded in agreement.
“Theo, do you know why you feel unhappy?” Asked Barnaby.
“I am not sure, but I think it happened when I looked outside.”
Four heads all looks outside the window to see if they could work out the problem.
“Is it because it looks cold outside, Theo?” Asked Bertie.
“No, I do not think so, Bertie. I was looking at the trees and wondering what will happen to them now they have lost all their green leaves. Now they are also losing their brownish leaves, I just wonder what will become of them after that.” Said Theo looking very sad.
“Sky will tell you if you wish to know, Theo, he is a genius, I know that because he told me so.” Said an excited Barnaby.
“Trees, yes very strange things are trees.” Said Sky looking outside.
“Why is that, Sky?” Asked Theo.
“Well, they have a lot of nice lush green leaves on their branches to keep them warm when the orange thing in the air is showing, and the weather is hot. Now, I would have thought they would either keep their green leaves for when it gets cold, or not have leaves at all when it is hot. Now, when it becomes cold out there and one would expect they need to keep warm they turn all their green leaves brown and then they fall to the ground and look very untidy. When the wind begins blowing, they all shiver feeling the cold, yes, very strange things are trees.” Said Sky.
“What will happen to them when they have no leaves at all, though? Will they still be there or will they all disappear and there will be no more trees?” Asked Theo.
“Well, Theo, during the cold and windy days the weather will go through what is known as nature’s pruning season that remove broken bits and wood that should not be there and then when it starts to warm up outside, they will grow fresh green leaves again. I dare say they know what they are doing, Theo, they will come back again after many sleeps.” Explained Sky.
“Really? Are you sure, Sky?” Asked Theo looking slightly happier.
“Of course, Theo, I am a genius, you see. Is that not right, Posh Bear?” Asked Sky.
“Yes, well that is what has happened every time so far and I can see no reason why it will not happen again, Theo. It is as Sky says, there is no need to be sad about it.”
“I suppose you have not seen trees before, Theo, being in the store all the time. It is nothing to be unhappy about, they will return and look all green again after some sleeps.” Said Bertie reassuring his friend.
Theo looked around him and he smiled.
“You know, it is lovely to have friends around you when you feel a little grumpy. It is especially good to have you guys around because now I feel happy again.” He said smiling.
“I feel that is good to hear, what do you think, Sky?” Asked Barnaby.
“If Theo is happy again, well I am sure it was the work of a genius.” Said Sky smiling rather smugly.
