Barnaby's Joke
“Hi Sky, listen I have a joke. It is very funny; Ellie told me it.”
“Hi Barnaby, okay that sound good, I like a joke.”
“Well, there is this bear that goes into an eating place and orders a slice of bread covered with a thick layer of honey.”
“I have heard that before, Barnaby. I think Ellie told me that one too. Save the rest of the joke and tell Bertie and Posh when they arrive.”
“Oh, okay, I thought I was the first to hear it. Here come Posh and Bertie now, I’ll tell them.”
The bears all sat down and made themselves comfortable and then Barnaby decided now was the perfect time to tell his joke.
“I have been told a joke by Ellie, would you guys like to hear it?” He asked looking at his friends.
“Sure, Barnaby, that would be nice. It would cheer us all up on this miserable morning with no bright yellow thing in the air.” Said Posh Bear watching as Bertie nodded his agreement.
“Well, there is this bear that goes into an eating place and orders a slice of bread covered with a thick layer of honey.”
“I have heard this already; it may have been Ellie that told me.” Said Posh Bear.
“Me too, Barnaby, sorry but I think she may have told almost everyone.” Said Bertie.
“Oh well, I thought it was funny when she told me and I just thought you guys might like to hear it but as you say, Ellie got there first.” Said a disappointed Barnaby.
“Thanks for the thought, Barnaby. I have noticed that it is all happening outside in the air though. I saw those huge green things are all turning brownish and their leaves are falling again. I think that has happened before.” Said Bertie.
“Yes, it did Bertie, I remember it well. They lost all their summer covering which made them look nice because I do remember saying that I felt it strange they lose all those nice warm coverings just when it turns cold and they need it most. Now I would have expected that they lose that covering when it is hot and they could do with the gentle breeze to cool them down and keep the covering for the cold times.” Said Posh Bear.
“Quite agree, Posh, they are bonkers. Plus, look at the mess they make and yet nobody complains to the head tall thingy and say pick your litter up. All very strange. I’m just glad I am a bear and not one of the tall thingy outside.” Said Sky.
“Sky, do you think the tall thingy outside would like to hear my joke and would laugh?” Asked Barnaby.
“I don’t think they speak bear, Barnaby, if they did then no doubt they would have loved to hear your joke.”
“Shame really, I only wanted to make a bear or even a tall thingy smile. I heard the man say that a smile is infectious, what does that mean? Is it good?” He asked looking unsure.
“In this instance, Barnaby, an infection of smiles is a good thing. I do quite agree with the man in making people smile is also a lovely thing to do, every day should be smile day.” Said Posh Bear.
