The Intellectual Discussion
Sky looked around his three friends as they sat on the sofa staring into nothingness.
“What is going on?” He asked as he sat beside Barnaby.
“I am thinking.” Replied Barnaby with a smile.
“Really, that is unusual.” Said Sky looking surprised.
“Yes, it is.” Said Barnaby still smiling.
“You normally leave the thinking to ineffectuals like me.” Said Sky proudly. “What were you thinking about?”
Sky saw both Posh and Bertie smile as they listened to the conversation.
“I was thinking, what should I think about.” Said Barnaby proudly.
“What had you deluded from your think, Barnaby?” Asked Sky who liked using long words to confuse other bears.
“Nothing, Sky, no nothing at all… yet.” Barnaby replied.
“I should not worry, Barnaby, for even us ineffectuals can’t think what to think about at times.” Said Sky.
“Is that so, Sky, well I must be well on the way to becoming a genius, just like yourself.”
“Well, maybe, but I feel you still have a way to go young Barnaby. Being a genius like what I am, well that takes age, as well as cleverness. It is only when you have equal quantities of each that a bear can become a true genius.” Said Sky nodding his head in agreement with himself.
“I see, so how many sleeps are equal to however you measure cleverness, Sky?” Asked Barnaby looking excited by this intellectual discussion.
“Well, more than three, Barnaby, I know that because I can count to three. I am not sure what comes after that.”
“Ah, so to become a genius then Sky, a bear does not have to count any further than three?” Asked Barnaby.
“No, I think not. After all, what is the point? When one can count up to three, a bear can do that three times, and I do not suppose there are any numbers that are more than that.”
“That is encouraging, Sky. I had not thought of it that way.” Said Barnaby smiling at his hero.
“No, I do not suppose you would young Barnaby, it takes a genius like what I am to work things out like that. A true ineffectual genius.” Said Sky proudly.
