A Worrying Situation

“What is wrong with Ellie?” Asked Icecap. “She was behaving most strangely, even for Ellie.”

“She is worried Icecap; she went to the moon but it wasn’t there.”

“Oh my word, that is worrying. What do you think has happened to it?”

“I suspect she got lost again and went to the wrong place.” Said Sky smiling.

“Didn’t she find anything at all?”

“No Icecap, it wasn’t there. Well, wherever “there” is, and one never can be sure with Ellie. The time before this she arrived during the daytime and everyone knows the moon goes to bed during the day, so it was hardly surprising it wasn’t where it normally is at night time.” Said Bertie.

“I explained last time to everyone that the moon doesn’t go to bed it moves to the other side of the world when the sun comes out here. Nobody listens to me.” Explained Posh.

“So, do we have to share the moon with the other side of the world then Posh?” Asked Icecap

“Yes, of course. We share the sun too for everything is always moving.” Explained Posh proudly.

“I can’t feel anything moving.” Said Sky. “Anyway, if we were all going round and round, we’d be dizzy and wobble all of the place.”

“I agree Sky, I was told that after the last time when she couldn’t find the moon, Ellie used the man’s screen picture thing and went to a special on-line shop. It is the biggest shop in the whole world and placed an order for another moon so she had a spare one to go to when the other one disappeared.”

“Wow! I never knew that Bertie. Has it arrived yet?” Asked Sky

“No, sadly not. They had them in stock, but Ellie refused to pay the carriage charge and anyway, they didn’t have a big enough piece of brown paper to wrap it up in. She cancelled the order and sulked, as she does.”

“I have an idea everyone.” Said Icecap. “Why don’t we all get together and buy Ellie another moon for her birthday.”

“What a wonderful idea Icecap, I think we should. Ellie would love that.” Agreed Bertie.

“Sadly, I heard they sold the last one to some hooman in a place called Russia who wanted it to build a new home on. Maybe we should leave it for now and see what can be done closer to her birthday. After all, we may be able to find a second-hand moon that looks kind of new, for I know there must be a lot about. The man has often been heard to say it is a new moon tonight so there must be lots of old ones that look pretty decent around.” Said Sky.

“Good idea Sky, after all, while I know we tend to go up there quite a lot for marshmallows, cheese, popcorn, and chocolate, but there is no way we could have eaten the whole moon at any one time.” Agreed Bertie.

“If only they had honey up there.” Enthused Sky licking his lips.

“If they did Sky, I think you would probably live up there and eat the whole moon away.”

“Me, Icecap? I have a very modest appetite so I have no idea where you got that idea from.” Said Sky.

“I’m sorry Sky, it was just that I saw you earlier on coming from where Posh has his honey carrying those three jars. Well, I guessed you were out yourself and had borrowed them to keep you going for the next few days. It was then I met Bertie and he said that you had fresh supplies due this afternoon so I guessed you must have a big appetite.”

Sky blushed ever so slightly as Posh glared at him.

“Oh that honey, well yes, I noticed that they were going out of date and anyway the jars needed cleaning both inside and out so I thought I had better help you Posh.”

“That was so kind of you Sky.” Said Bertie and Icecap in unison.

“One does try.” Replied Sky licking the remains of the last jar off his lips.
