flowers for my Dad
This series is dedicated to my dear father who very sadly passed away this week on Monday 11 March 2019 after battling illness for more than a year. The funeral parlour and service were quite beautiful and moving and I hope to share a little of the local Chinese culture and traditions involved.
At a traditional Chinese wake, joss/incense sticks would be burnt and offered to the deceased. However, to be more environment-friendly and to enable guests of other faiths and religions to partake in the offerings, flowers were used here instead. Each person would pick up a plate with a flower, bow three times in front of a portrait of my father, and then place the flower on top of water in a big bowl on the altar.
