What Makes a Storyboard good???
A storyboard’s purpose is to convey the story being told and thus it should be judged by its ability to do so in a clear and precise manner. A storyboard needs to be easy to understand and so it should contain as much useful information as it can, without overcrowding it. It should be so busy that it is difficult to decipher but instead everything contained on it should assist in conveying the idea as efficiently as possible. The easiest way to do this is to make it clear and structured, while pictures may be rough the entire storyboard should be formatted and organised in a logical manner that allows details to be observed with ease. It should contain relevant information about such things as timings, shot angles, character movements and any other action happening as well as explanations of the plot as it unfolds in each scene should be available. The images should be there to support the written and convey concept and character ideas. Arrows and symbols to show the direction of movement or vibration are helpful devices and rough pictures should still be clear in representation. A storyboard’s quality can be judge the fact another person can pick it up and seeing it for the first time understand what they would have to do to create it.
