Armed Trawler

The Sirius-class Trawlers were highly seaworthy, built to the specifications of the Grande Marina for use in wartime. Capable of speeds up to 11 knots and easily adapted for patrol and minesweeping tasks, they were cheap, versatile and able workhorses of a navy that, despite the massive Rearmament programme of the 1890's, was still experiencing a shortage of warships. They could even have a 4.7in gun and some 40mm's thrown on!

Historically, Perceptum's fishing industry has been an interesting one. Like everything else it was hit hard by the aftermath of the Eight Years War; the loss of the extensive pre-war fishing grounds forced the shrunken fishing fleets of the Grand Republic to get crafty. In the 1880's they were practically pirates that invaded the sovereign waters of other countries (usually their former colonies) to commence illegal fishing operations. In the 1890's they gained the support of the Republics growing navy. Where they had previously had to resort to... interesting methods of the defense, the 1890's formalized the aggressive nature of Perceptum's fishing industry with the support of the government.

Yeah, Perceptum is a bully.

If this looks familiar to some of you; it was inspired by the ship of the same name from the Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn.

Which was itself modeled off the trawler John-0.88, so at least the blueprints were easy to find. Stats-wise its closer to a WW1 Castle-class Trawler.
