This old circus close to the famous Schanzenviertel in Hamburg is a weird looking thing. It was constructed in the late 19th century to serve as a circus and later, as a theatre and opera. Despite the fact, that it is under monumental protection and its steel frame is one of a kind in Germany, the demolishment to make way for investors has been the topic of debate for decades now. In the middle of 2017 investors presented their plans of three new buildings which they would like to construct. Even though there is some opposition, I’m not hopeful. If you are in Hamburg and are interested in historic buildings, I suggest going there to have a look rather sooner than later.
