The Wee Cottage

The wee cottage of Lagangarbh (In English - Lagangarve) at the foot of the mountain Buachaille Etive Mor (The Great Shepherd of the Glens) in Glencoe, Scotland. Take from the top of the Coire na Tulaich ravine, with the Mamore mountains as the backdrop.

The track on the left is the Devil's Staircase. It was initially given its name by soldiers of General Wade, who built the track about 1725 to gain access to the Highlands, to control rebel Highlanders. The name was perpetuated when some of the workers building the Blackwater Dam (in shot) chose to travel to the nearest pub, up and over the mountains, after their wages had been paid out. The journey to the Kingshouse Hotel proved to be more difficult than many realised. The journey back was even worse as unsteady legs meant that many were unable to manage the return trip and, on a freezing winter’s night, the devil often ”claimed his own“, lost in the snows.
