Altlandsberg: Strausberger Torturm, auch Storchenturm genannt - Strausberg Gate Tower, also called Stork Tower
Der Strausberger Torturm befindet sich als Teil der ehemaligen Stadtbefestigung.
Der 22 Meter hohe Turm wurde in der Mitte des 14. Jahrhunderts erbaut, um den Bürgern einen bequemen Zugang zu ihren Äckern und zum Stadtforst zu ermöglichen. Im Mittelalter nutzte man das Gebäude als Gefängnis und Polizeistation. 1820 erweiterte man das Bauwerk um weitere Zellen, in dem man nach dem Abbruch des Torbaus im nördlichen Bereich einen Anbau vornahm. Der Turm mit dem markanten Kegeldach erhielt 1897 ein Storchenrad. Seit dieser Zeit nisten dort Störche. Er gilt als das Wahrzeichen der Stadt und ist seit 1947 auf dem Stadtwappen abgebildet.

The Strausberg gate tower is part of the former town fortifications. The 22 metre high tower was built in the middle of the 14th century to provide citizens with easy access to their fields and the town forest. In the Middle Ages, the building was used as a prison and police station. In 1820, more cells were added to the building when an extension was built in the northern section after the gatehouse was demolished. The tower with its distinctive conical roof was fitted with a stork wheel in 1897. Storks have been nesting there ever since. It is considered the town's landmark and has been depicted on the town's coat of arms since 1947.

Altlandsberg is a small town to the east of Berlin with a population of around 9640, the town centre is surrounded by a rampart and moat as well as a largely preserved 1.3 kilometre-long fieldstone town wall with the Berlin Gate Tower and the Strausberg Gate Tower (“Stork Tower”) from the 14th/15th century. It is characterised by buildings mainly from the 18th and 19th centuries, including many urban looking houses that had farm building in their backyards as the owners formerly used to have fields and pastures outside the town, earning their living with agricultural activities. All these buildings have been extensively renovated since 1991.
