Das dritte Brunnenwerk Augsburgs wurde 1538 an der Stadtmauer beim Vogeltor errichtet. Es diente vor allem der Versorgung des Lechviertels mit Trinkwasser und blieb bis 1879 in Betrieb. 1774 wurde ein Wehrturm zum Brunnenturm umfunktioniert, was das Werk vergrößerte und leistungsfähiger machte. Der äußere Stadtgraben fließt am Vogeltor unter der Wehrmauer hindurch und wird dadurch zum Inneren Stadtgraben.
Augsburg's third well was built in 1538 on the city wall near the Vogeltor. It mainly served to supply the Lech district with drinking water and remained in operation until 1879. In 1774, a defence tower was converted into a well tower, which enlarged the plant and made it more efficient. The Outer City Moat flows under the defence wall at the Vogeltor and thus becomes the Inner City Moat.
