MEC Maine Central U18B #407 Vanceboro, ME 10-00-77
BV-1 out of Bangor yesterday had a pair of U18B's for power into Vanceboro At one time Vanceboro was a busy terminal for the Maine Central and had several yard tracks on both sides of the mainline, a 3 or 4 stall roundhouse, machinist, carmen clerks, operators and a general agent. and a pretty good size station. The clerks did all the customs work for the CP trains transiting through the state.By 1977 a big train for No 334 across the joint track might be 25-30 cars as the Maine Central maintain switching rights over the joint track. It was on the decline then and while Pan Am maintains trackage across the "Joint Track" into Vanceboro they have not exercised in several years.
