MEC Maine Central Local Freight RS-1 GP38 #259 Eastbound South Gardiner, ME Lower Road 02-10-78
The Maine Central was a family railroad. One family was the Dodge Brothers, 2 of them were in engine service and the other 3 in train service. Quite often they would be bid in the same run. I think remember riding with them on a Sunday when they caught RB-1 that would spot the meat in Augusta at Swift's. The other family were the Kennedy's Tom an Engineer and Howard who was a Conductor. For a long time they worked the local between Rigby Yard and Augusta (RS-1 -SR-2) doing all work on the Lower Road and returning to Rigby it was a great job. Here RS-1 with a single GP-38 is headed Eastbound at South Gardiner with Tom at the throttle and Howard on the rear with a D&H Pa ahead of the cab headed for Waterville Shops.
