Whitefield, NH
I had the pleasure of being able to call Gene Harjula a friend, sadly he passed on in his early 40's over 35 years ago. He lived in South Thomaston in the final years and I never crossed Mill Creek bridge while working for the Maine Eastern without thinking of him. Gene was an agent-operator for the Maine Central preferring to work the extra board. Gene's family was from Finland and the entire family was known for their dry sense of humor. One year Gene was working the agency in Gilman and when he went down to Whitefield to check the yard he took an image similar to this. Since I took this picture the owner of the New Hampshire Central has spent the money to fix the Ball Signals and the building including a fresh coat of Maine Central Grey and Dartmouth Green. Like Gene I invite you to Whitefield where I will meet you and kiss you under the balls!!!! Happy Holidays.
