MEC Maine Central Plow Extra Westbound, Cherryfield, ME Calais Branch 02-08-78
The Maine Central's Calais Branch was a nocturnal operation for the most part. BC-1 would go on duty in Bangor in the evening getting into Calais in the early morning hours and coming back on duty on their rest usually connecting with the traffic coming of the Woodland Branch. In the long days of summer you could chase them east but for no reason other than plain stupidity I didn't. Today the branch is owned by the State and much of it has been abandoned and made in to a rail train. Don't remember the details but GSP got wind that a plow West was running out of Calais. 3 hours later and about 175 miles we were able to get the plow going by the station at Cherryfield, not much plowing and a little flanging, better than nothing, Eh?
