Freeport McMoran Gold and Copper GP-38 #63 climbing the hill out of Clifton
Coming out of the mine at Morenci down to Clifton is a 5 percent grade and the GP38's are all equipped with extended range high capacity dynamic brakes. There is a runaway track equipped with a derail before entering Clifton that the crews have to stop for to line in both directions. The runaway track will accommodate 4 units and the light engines in the hole will go down and get the second portion of the interchange received from the Arizona Eastern. It is quite a show and even better sound show. Today the light engines have taken care of the derail so the up train doesn't have to stop as they climb the hill.
