MEC Maine Central Railroad RS-3's 556-557 Calais, ME 10-74

The Calais Branch extended from Calais Junction located in Brewer to its namesake border town dividing the United States from Canada with the assistance of the Saint Croix River. The Maine Central offered passenger service to Calais and E7's plying the rail were common sights. In October of 1974 I can only assume that I was on my way to work likely in Saint John when I photographed the last Maine Central RS-3's waiting to handle CB-4 West later in the day. The small one stall roundhouse was used by the crew of the Woodland Local, all is gone today.
