MEC Maine Central WG-4 GP-7 #571 Westbound Winslow, ME 03-00-78

At one time there was enough business in Augusta that a Road Switcher was assigned there normally a 44 tonner in the winter months and a S-1 in the warm months. Augusta had a one stall roundhouse and the engineer serviced the power. By the early 70's this job was abolished and two locals came out of Waterville to service the remaining business. WG-2 would go onduty at 0400 switching out the paper mill in Augusta and making a side trip to Gardiner as required. WG-4 would come out of Waterville mid morning after the arrival of GW-1 giving the paper mill in Augusta a second switching the late afternoon, this was a high seniority job. Here WG-4 is passing through Winslow headed for Augusta on the Lower Road. The track is still in but has been reduced o an industrial track now and the remaining business East of the Kennebec River now sees service at night a couple of days a week.
