Magical Water.
Photo Technique: Colour Splash
Album Theme: Surreal Colour
The Making of This Photo:
I spent a lot of time thinking of how I could introduce a contrast into this photo. Originally, I was planning to have a close up on the pencil crayons to really show the bubbles and their colour, but then there wouldn't have been any way for me to introduce colour splash into the photo, so this is what I came up with. After that, the editing was quite simple, I just selected around the area that I wanted to keep colour in, made a new layer, and under the new layer I made a black and white mask. And voila!
What This Photo Offers:
This photo brings together three very strong camera composition techniques. Contrast, Framing and diagonals. Contrast is created in the photo when you not only see the contrast between the black and white versus the colour splash, but also when you see the subjects within the photo compared to the background, a soft cloth versus a hard shiny surface like the glass and the pencil crayons. Framing is evident in that the pencil crayons outside of the cup frame the glass in a rough looking square or circle. Diagonals are also evident because the pencil crayons outside make the frame, but the pencil crayons inside the cup are not only the focal point, but the end of them that is outside of the cup and not coloured still leads the viewers eye towards the coloured part of the photo and so leads the eye towards the subject.
