Norfolk, East Ruston Old Vicarage Garden - June 2021 (101)
East Ruston Old Vicarage
Situated in Vicarage Road, East Ruston, Norfolk NR12 9HN this garden was full of surprises. This is the first time we have visited here but it will not be the last. It has over 30 acres of garden, of long borders and vistas, individual rooms of flowers and rare plants. The house which is closed to the public but is surrounded by many exotic plants. There is also a walled garden, a wildflower meadow, garden sculpture, a sunken garden and many other features.
The garden was established in 1973 by Alan Gray and Graham Robeson on a harsh site with the North Sea close by but by careful planting of trees, particularly Monteray Pines, they have created a micro-climate where their many plants and shrubs flourish.
Close by is Happisburgh Common where it’s possible to walk from the house to the lighthouse and beach. The distance is just over two miles. We didn’t do it this time but will on our next trip. Definitely a great garden to visit.
This is the first of a few postings.
