Bar codes on the way to Frankfurt
on historic trade road Via Regia
an der historischen Handelsstraße Via Regia
This photo was taken between Wartbaum and Roßdorf (Nidderau, Hesse, Germany). The monument „Sequenz Roßdorf“ symbolizes the trade on the old historic trade route „Via Regia“ and the development of modern trade with goods (bar codes).
The Via Regia (Royal Highway) was a historic trade road in the Middle Ages which ran through the Holy Roman Empire from Santiago de Campostela (Spain) - along the Rhine river through Frankfurt and Leipzig - to Kiew (Ukraine).
In our area the road is called „Hohe Straße (High Road) which leads along a mountain ridge from Frankfurt to Hammerbach (23 km) with beautiful views on the surroundings. Parts of the historic route became the so-called „Regionalpark RheinMain“ (inaugurated in 1994) and include a bike and hiking route.
