historic steam locomotive out of service

year of construction 1942

How does the drive system of a steam locomotive work?

The pistons in the cylinders of the steam engine are alternately supplied with steam from the front and rear. The reciprocating motion of the pistons is transmitted to the driving wheels via the connecting rods and thus converted into a rotating motion.
