Variable Longhorn Beetle (Stenocorus meridianus)

You can see where the film makers get their Alien inspiration from! This is a head-on view of a Variable Longhorn Beetle.

 

They are given this name because the colour of this type of Longhorn Beetle (Stenocorus meridianus) is variable from a uniform dull yellow through to almost black.
