London Buses On The Go
Metroline West VW1755 (LK59 CWR) || Wrightbus Gemini 2 B9TL || 483 || Ealing Hospital-Harrow
With the proposed diversion to Windmill Park, the 483 might not be displaying Ealing Hospital for much longer. In fact, some buses have already started showing the new destination despite the consultation results not even being published yet!
Whilst the new routeing does bring residents of Navigator Drive physically closer to a bus stop, plus a new link to Matalan, I'm sceptical the link will actually be used given the much higher frequency of services along the Uxbridge Road corridor - it doesn't help that the 483 is being slashed for a second time despite its consistently decent loads. The traffic leading up to Iron Bridge is simply woeful sometimes and given the close proximity of the new terminus to Abellio's new garage, it's a possibility that this service can be added to the mockery of their collection in Ealing already.
The other disadvantage is that TfL seem to have the audacity to remove the 483 from Ealing Hospital grounds. Without going that tiny bit further, apart from in rush hour the route would be completely dead along Uxbridge Road. It is extremely popular for reaching accessing the hospital, especially for those who find it difficult to walk for long distances and up an incline. There's always a large queue for the 483 going back out and I suspect if the change goes ahead there will be a lot of angry customers, myself included. Although catching the 207 instead will only be a slight burden, the 483 guarantees easy seats and as a fairly regular outpatient at Ealing, there's no denying that if I see a 483 coming within a couple of minutes I will stick around and wait for it.
It'll be interesting to see how much local opposition there is to this change, given how subtly TfL have tried to disguise this disgrace of an "improvement."
