Atlantic Puffin (Fratercula arctica) - Elliston, NFLD
I had an amazing trip to Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. Newfoundland was just amazing with stunning landscapes, incredible birds and beautiful people. This photo was taken at the Elliston Puffin Viewing site where the birds nest on Bird Island. If you are patient and respectful the birds can fly over to where you sit. They do so to collect nesting material. It was one of those magical pinch you moment you never forget. The way they run and waddle is so cute. It was a dream of mine and my mother's to get to NFLD. I so wish she could of gone with me before she passed away but I carried her in my heart through the whole journey.
The colony also contained nesting Black Guillemots and Common Murres, Black-legged Kittiwakes and Razorbills. I also saw Northern Gannets flying around. After visiting this colony we went to the colony at Cape Bonavista Lighthouse and then had a delicious breakfast at Mifflin's Tea Room where we had fresh partridgeberry jam.
