Red Knot (Calidris canutus) - Grays Harbor, WA
Saw over 500 Red Knots at Bottle Beach. Met some researchers from AK and we found one with a Russian leg tag which was super cool. was the first time I saw so many in breeding plumage like this!
These birds migrate as much as 14,000km each year from AK to South America. The subspecies "rufa" is listed as a federally threatened species under the United States and endangered by the Gov't of Canada's Endangered Species Act. It is severely climate endangered.
