Brandt's Cormorant (Phalacrocorax penicillatus) on nest - La Jolla, CA

There was a colony of Brandt's Cormorants nesting on the cliffs at La Jolla Cove. Some of them stood up and revealed a single egg underneath their brood patch.

 

I love these birds with their beautiful flurescant throat patches.

 

We rarely get close to these birds at home and hardly ever see them in this plumage.
