Juvenile Sanderlings (Calidris alba) - Point Roberts, WA

At this time of year the most easy shorebirds to shoot around here are Dunlin, Black Turnstones and Sanderlings but remarkably a Willet is also around. We haven't had one overwinter since 2014. I love watching how these little Sanderlings walk up the beach and down the beach and then up the beach and down the beach again! I love watching their feet as they run. It's a rare treat when you see one pose in a spot long enough for a photo! I got lucky with 3 on this rock on a sunny day. These are 3 juveniles moulting into their 1st winter plumage.
