Juvenile Common Tern (Sterna hirundo) - Point Roberts, WA

This tiny Common Tern, who was smaller than the nearby Bonaparte's Gulls was doing a wing stretch right in front of my face (shot at 271 mm) as I laid on the beach. He and the gulls did not seem to mind my presence. This was a surprise to me since I find Terns to be very skittish. Soon (in about a week), all of the Common Terns will pass through the Lower Mainland, as they migrate south but in the meantime they sure are elegant to watch.
