Snow Bunting (Plectrophenax nivalis) - Richmond, BC

Taken while walking my dogs on Iona's South Jetty.

He was as tame as ever and at some points walked right up to me that I had to back up to photograph him.

I love these little cuties but unfortunately, they as many other birds, in their arctic breeding grounds, are being impacted negatively by climate change.

Fun Fact: Snow Buntings are the most northerly recorded passerine in the world. They also don't go through a moult as other typical passerines do. Instead their feathers turn from winter plumage to breeding plumage due to the wearing and abrasion of their feathers.
