Northern Spotted Owl (Strix occidentalis caurina) - WA

Found two of these endangered birds in Washington State. This was a male calling out to the female. I had tears down my face as I saw a relic of the past in our vanishing old growth forests. We must protect these beautiful owls before we lose them all. This was a truly magical moment for me. I sat with this owl for a few hours. The location of these endangered owls cannot be divulged to ensure their protection.*

The spotted owl can't live in just any forest. It prefers to eat flying squirrels, and flying squirrels prefer the high canopy of old growth forests. They live for about 15 years.
