The tank
The final touch is the tank on the Pyro's back. I used two 2 liter soda bottles and two smaller bottles, cut the bottoms off and stuck them together. The smaller tank was simply taped, however the larger tank I cut a small wedge out of one side and tapered it slightly, so that they could slide together, this way I could use the tank to carry things (always important for convention costumes, because nobody wants to see a Pyro carrying around bags of dice and other nerdy convention buys)
The larger tank has a small tire pressure gauge glued on top, these are easy to find and very effective.
Both tanks were sewn onto a small piece of plastic (punch holes with an awl before trying to sew!) for support, and the whole contraption is sewn onto some straps of webbing which are designed to match the Pyro's costume.
Because I am a bit skinnier than the Pyro in the game, I made the belt a bit loose, hoping it would make me look bigger, but the weight of the tanks caused things to shift a bit and the belt ended up to high. If I were to do it again, I would spend a bit more time getting the belt to look right and maybe actually attach it to the jumpsuit.
Also, I wish the belt had a buckle, instead of just having to wiggle in and out of the whole thing. Maybe if I were a guy it would be better, but as a girl, peeing with this costume was a long process of undressing, peeing and then suiting back up.
I ended up buying a camel pack and filling it with rum and juice, and running the hose out the top of the tank, for my friends and me to enjoy throughout the convention, this may have contributed to the ridiculous photos that can be found in my Dragon*Con '08 set.
