Gold Rush Elegance

Henry Laslett owned the first real estate business in the booming gold town of Kalgoorlie, Western Australia.

With his wealth he built this commercial building in Kalgoorlie's main street in the early 1900s.

The WA Heritage Council describes the frontage thus:

Details on the parapet and the street facade, including tiles and curved window heads and frames, are believed to be of Islamic influence of the camel traders in Kalgoorlie. The building has Art Nouveau motifs on the parapet and the moulded details that surround the window openings on the upper floor. The building also features classical mouldings on the pilasters.
