Lock Lugs

On a sunny day these benches at Scarborough Beach would be lined with tourists and beachgoers.

But early on a dull and overcast morning, they were nicely free of human obstructions.

The stainless-steel lugs (known as 'hostile architecture') are to prevent damage from skateboarders using them to slide along.

They also serve, if one's backside is centred carefully on a lug, to prevent one from being blown sideways if a stiff sea breeze blows up! 😉
